It was not so much a talk about Rockwall-Heath, but a team meeting about setting the tone.
After the Wildcats studied video and lifted weights Monday then had a short conference with Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens.
Owens told the assembled players that he wanted them to set a good tone the first day of practice for the first game of the year.
The coach does not want the Wildcats to lapse into any lazy or bad habits which might have come after the hot and grueling training they have been undergoing since Aug. 4.
Owens reminded the group that the game with Rockwall-Heath is important, but it is not a district game or a game which will have any bearing on the playoffs.
But the coach expects the team to do well in practice which will carry over for the game.
Owens put the emphasis on the team “This is up to you, how you want to be remembered. This is a new season. Right now we know we will have 10 games. We want to play well - starting this week.”
The players hit the field at 5:07 p.m. Monday under 96 degree temperatures as they prepare for the season opener. Practices continue in the afternoon with the start of classes.
