While getting ready to head back to classes next week, students and parents need to be sure they know the correct start time for the student’s campus so that they arrive in ample time to make it to class and be in their seat on time with all of their supplies.

So when does your student need to be in class? Here are some start times for schools as reported the News-Telegram:

Sulphur Springs ISD
Sulphur Springs Independent School District administrators caution that the start time for several campuses has changed, effective with the start of the 2014-15 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The nine Sulphur Springs campuses among them have three different start times and five different dismissal times.
Sulphur Springs High School, Middle School and Austin Academic Center will begin classes at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:30 p.m.
Douglas Intermediate and Sulphur springs Elementary also will begin the day at 8 a.m. Classes for third, fourth and fifth graders will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m.
First and second grades won’t begin their day until 8:10 a.m. Classes at Bowie, Lamar and Travis Primary campuses will end at 3:10.
Early Childhood Learning Center will begin classes at 8:05 a.m., but has three different dismissal times. Head Start 3 students will end their day at 3:05 p.m. Head Start 4 and prekindergarten students’ days will end at 3:15 p.m. Kindergarten and transitional first grade will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m.

Cumby ISD
Students at both elementary and secondary campuses at Cumby ISD should plan to be at school and in class by the 8:05 a.m. tardy bell starting Monday, Aug. 25, when classes start for the 2014-15 school year. High school students will be released at 3:40 p.m. and elementary at 3:30 p.m. Buses will run at 3:35 p.m. from the elementary and 3:40 from high school. Students may be picked up by parents after the buses run.

Miller Grove ISD
Classes will start Monday, Aug. 25, at Miller Grove ISD. Parents and students should plan for pupils to be in class by the 8:15 a.m. tardy bell. Classes are dismissed for the day at 3:20 p.m.

North Hopkins ISD
Classes will begin promptly Monday morning, Aug. 25. Classes, according to the student handbook posted on the website, begin at 7:55 a.m. Students who arrive between 7:55 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. are considered late.

How many total hours of classroom instruction are required per year? In Hawaii, it's 900 hours. The HS where my daughter teaches starts class at 8:20 AM and ends at 2:27 PM. Of the 27 high schools, her school and one other are NOT going to reach the 900 hour mark. If schools are closed for a few days some reason during the year… almost all of the schools will fail to reach the minimum 900 hour mark.
