Football scrimmage competition continues for area high schools.
Como-Pickton was in action Thursday on the road at Detroit.
The battle of Eagles saw the home team prevail in the scrimmage 3-2.
“We scored two touchdowns,” said Conley Bland, Como-Pickton head coach. “Raydon Swaim intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for one touchdown during the live quarter and Christian Hill scored on a 1-yard run during the controlled scrimmage.
Detroit scored three touchdowns.
I was pleased with the way the team played during the live quarter, because tells the coaches more about the team when the players are on the field without coaches.
Bland continued, “Dantae Hall, also, intercepted a pass during the scrimmage and had a punt of 35 yards from the line of scrimmage during the live quarter. We have a lot of work to do before next week, but I am excited about the game against Trenton.”
Statistics from the game for Como-Pickton reveal the Eagles posting 143 yards rushing and 50 yards through the air.
Como-Pickton rushed 27 times for an average of 5.3 yards per carry with one touchdown, two fumbles lost.
Hill topped the rushing attack with 91 yards on 12 carries (7.6 yard average) and one score. Blake Neal ran eight times for 35 yards.
Quarterback Cody Fite completed 5-of-9 passes for 50 yards with one interception.
Blayke Pegues, Luis Lopez and Swaim each had one catch for 15 yards. Blake Neal caught one for four yards and Hall had one reception for one yard.
