Investigators with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office tipped Commerce Police to a man in that city downloading and distributing child pornography, according to Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews.
Crews said an investigation was prompted by information from this county’s investigators that work in conjunction with Internet Crimes Against Children [ICAC] and Commerce police on these types of cases.
“On Aug. 14, the investigation came to a point where probable cause was established by detectives and a search warrant was obtained,” Crews said Monday. “The search warrant was served immediately on a residence in the 2300 block of Taylor Street.”
Crews identified the man as Erion Eugene Shirley, 31, of Commerce.
“The subject admitted to circulating images and videos he knew to be child pornography,” Crews said. “Shirley was immediately placed under arrest for possession of child pornography and later transported to Hunt County jail.”
Bond for Shirley was set at $40,000 on the third-degree felony charge of possession or promotion of child pornography.
Crews said the case is being reviewed by the Hunt County District Attorney’s office and there is the possibility of additional charges being filed.
Hopkins County investigators, working closely with ICAC and state and federal authorities have made a number of arrests recently and continue to actively pursue those involved in online solicitation of a minor as well as those downloading and sharing child pornography.
