    Funeral services for Merle Tolbert Panter, 85, of Sulphur Springs were held Monday, Aug. 18, at League Street Church of Christ.

    Interment followed in Restlawn Cemetery.
    Merle Tolbert Panter died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014.
    She was born May 3, 1929, to William Irvin Tolbert and Rella McGuire Tolbert in Durant Okla.
    She married Mel Panter in Van Buren, Ark. May 26, 1948.
    Merle was a loving wife and mother. 
    She retired from Sulphur Springs ISD serving as secretary for the Special Education Department. 
    She was an active member of League Street Church of Christ and served as secretary for several churches where she and her husband attended.
    Merle is survived by Mel, her husband of 66 years; brother, George Tolbert; sons, Gary Panter and wife, Helene, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Tommy Panter and wife, Gwen, of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Linda Panter of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Olive, Caleb and wife, Addi, Adam and wife, Jenni, Luke and wife, Janae, and Andrew; and great-grandchildren Bennett, Beau, Penny and Charli.
    She was preceded in death by an infant son, Toby Wayne Panter; and brothers Tony Tolbert, William Tolbert and J. B. Tolbert.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to: Camp Deer Run, 1227 CR 4590, Winnsboro, Texas 75494.
