Sulphur Springs teams will have a tough battle today when they host North Lamar for the volleyball opener at the high school gym.
The freshmen begin play at 4:30 p.m., the junior varsity will follow at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity will take the floor at 6:30 p.m.
The freshmen won the TVVOA Eustace tournament while the junior varsity took second place in the JV division.
The Sulphur Springs varsity won their pool in the Van tournament and finished in the top eight.
Sulphur Springs played No. 8-state ranked North Lamar earlier in the year. The Lady Cats fell in three straight by scores of 15-25, 9-25 and 16-25 in the Prairiland Tournament.
The Lady Cats have improved since that meeting.
Allison Irvin, Sulphur Springs head volleyball coach was encouraged by play in recent games.
“The weekend was a roller coaster of emotion and consistency,” Irvin said. “On Friday, they realized the importance of starting out point one set one...full fire. Often we wait too long to battle back and it is too late. After the first match, they battled back against Athens and Big Sandy. I could see their fight, focus and desire.”
Irvin added, “I am blessed to have 12 very hard-working ladies who love volleyball and work hard. We will keep working hard and keep learning for each match about our strengths and weaknesses.”
