SS volleyball teams do well in tournaments

    Sulphur Springs teams did very well in recent volleyball tournament competition.

    The freshmen Lady Cats won first place in their division at the TVVOA Tournament in Eustace.
    The freshmen beat Brookhill 25-12 and 25-19. The squad also defeated Edgewood 25-13, 25-23 according to scores reported by coach Jerrod Hammack.
    The junior varsity competed in the same tournament and earned second place, said coach David Carrillo.
    The Sulphur Springs varsity finished in the top eight at the Van Tournament.The team won their pool, but lost twice in Saturday action.
    The Lady Cats were defeated 14-25, 19-25 by All Saints. Lexie Moore had five kills, Desi Debase added four. Katie Barnett had seven assists, Jessye Castro and Moore led the team in blocks. Arp defeated the Lady Cats 11-25, 25-19, 25-23.  Moore had six kills, Barnett nine assists; Meike Van Benthem and Castro paced the team in blocks. The varsity is coached by Allison Irvin.
    Sulphur Springs hosts No. 8 state-ranked North Lamar Tuesday, varsity at 6:30 p.m.
