Sulphur Springs students and parents will have an opportunity to meet their teachers during activities scheduled three days next week. Special schedule pick up and sixth grade orientation will be held on two days next week, while high school freshmen will attend fish camp and grades 10-12 pick up schedules Aug. 25.

School supplies for students up through fifth grade are available in English and Spanish on the school website (www.ssisd.net), as well as in most local stores. A list of items middle school students should have with them at all times and a list of recommended items teachers will later advise how  to utilize is also available on the website.
The first Meet the Teacher night is scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Early Childhood Learning Center. Head Start 3, Head Start 4 and pre-kindergarteners can meet their teachers and drop off supplies from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and kindergarten and transitional first graders from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A YMCA counselor will also be on hand at ECLC during Meet the Teacher to talk to parents of pre-kindergarteners and kindergarten students about the new after-school program
Sixth graders and their parents can stop by Sulphur Springs Middle School anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, to complete enrollment documents and pick up their schedules. They can use their schedule to scout out their classes, meet their teachers and become familiar with the campus. Then, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday an informational meeting for sixth graders and their parents will be held in the school gym.
Seventh and eighth grade students and parents can pick up their class schedules, complete enrollment documents and meet their teachers any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at SSMS. Seventh graders must provide updated shot records showing they’ve had the latest required vaccinations for their grade level before they can receive a schedule. Parents should take care of that and get the documents in by Aug. 21 in order to avoid waiting in line to see the nurse and present the records so they can get their students’ schedules.
Meet the Teacher will continue Thursday, Aug. 21, for third and fourth graders at Sulphur Springs Elementary from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and for fifth graders at Douglas Intermediate School from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A YMCA counselor will also be on hand at SSES to talk to parents of third and fourth graders about and register students for the after-school program. Parents of fifth and sixth graders (up to age 12) interested in the after-school program for their students can see the YMCA counselor at Douglas Intermediate during Meet the Teacher activities.
Bowie, Lamar and Travis Primary campuses will hold Meet the Teacher from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22 for first and second graders assigned to those campuses. A YMCA rep will be at Travis Primary only during Meet the Teacher to meet with parents interested in enrolling their SSISD first and second graders in the after-school program. Thus, parents of Bowie and Lamar students should plan to stop by Travis Primary, 130 Garrison St., between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, for more information about enrolling their first and second graders.
Sulphur Springs High School will hold freshman “fish camp” from 9 a.m. top 12 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25. All ninth graders are encouraged to attend, get and learn their class schedules by participating in a mock class day, hear about school offerings, rules, meet administrators and tour the campus.
Any freshman who is unable to attend fish camp may join the rest of the upper-classmen when the 10th, 11th and 12th graders pick up their class schedules from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at SSHS.
Any new student to SSISD, with the exception of first and second graders, can be registered at the campus for that child’s grade level next week. New to SSISD students who are in first and second grades must pre-register with the Elementary Education Office, located inside the SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St., to receive a campus assignment before the student can report for classes or Meet the Teacher.
New SSISD students entering a pre-school program through kindergarten and transitional first grade should register at ECLC, 390 Hillcrest Dr. New third and fourth graders will register at SSES, 829 Bell St. New to SSISD fifth graders should register at Douglas Intermediate, 600 Calvert St. New to SSISD sixth, seventh and eighth graders will register at SSMS, 835 Wildcat Way.
