Five rural county school districts are accepting applications for candidacy for their Nov. 3 trustees election.
Individuals who plan to file as candidates for seats up for election on Cumby, Miller Grove, North Hopkins, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff school boards have only three days to register. Candidate filing began July 19 and continues through the close of business Monday, Aug. 18. The deadline for declaration of write-in candidacy is Aug. 22.
In Cumby Independent School District, two trustees are to be elected to at-large full terms. Currently serving in the seats are Jeff Kinsey and Jesse Heer. Kinsey has been on the board since 2008. Heer served on the board from 1997 until 2009, then returned in May 2011. As of lunch time Tuesday, no one had yet to pick up a candidate package, according to school election official Cindy Mannon.
To file, candidates can pick up and return applications to the central administrative offices at CISD weekdays during regular school business hours.
At Miller Grove ISD, three trustees will be elected at-large to four-year terms on the board. Currently serving in those seats are Rolanda Hasten, Brian Lennon and Jason Back. Jim Potts served on the board until this last month, when he resigned. Back, who had previously served as a trustee, was appointed by the school board to finish out the last few months of Potts’ term, according to Superintendent Steve Johnson.
Filing will continue Thursday and Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in MGISD main office.
Sulphur Bluff ISD will also elect trustees for three positions on the board, each for a full four-year term. The positions are currently held by Bill Wilder, Brian Dorner and John Vance.
Applications can be picked up and returned to Nancy Halbert in SBISD office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
North Hopkins ISD is also accepting applications for two board seats. David James and Leah Conner are currently serving in those seats. The election is at-large for full-term seats on the board. As of Wednesday, two candidates had filed, incumbent David James and Bruce Allen Joslin.
Candidate applications for NHISD school board can be filed in the school office this week from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 5 p.m. Monday.
Saltillo ISD is taking candidate applications for a few places on the school board. Candidate filing will continue weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the school office, according to the notice posted on the school website. Places up for election are Places 2, 4, 6 and 7.
