Cumby Independent School District administrators invite students, parents and community members to the school Friday for a special event.
Meet the Trojan Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 in the CISD gym. Student athletes, coaches and those participating in related activities will be introduced to the community. The activity is scheduled just before the first Cumby Trojan football scrimmage versus Carlisle in Cumby at 11 a.m. Saturday.
This is one of a number of activities Cumby ISD has scheduled from Aug. 15-21.
“We have lots of events coming up, and are very excited about what we have going on,” Cumby ISD Superintendent Shelly Slaughter said. “We will also have free- or donation-only haircuts for back to school and pack the bus, school supplies drive. All of this is taking place on Thursday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the school.”
Go to www.cumbyisd.net to download school supply lists for all grade levels, as well as academic and athletic calendars, contact information and school announcements. School announcements can also be found at cumby.schools on Facebook and Cumby_ISD on Twitter.
Community members are encouraged to check out the facilities improvements the school buildings have received while attending the Meet the Teacher Night/Tailgate Party with their students Aug. 21.
“We have had several "make-overs" in our buildings as well that we are very excited about. Fresh paint and murals have been added, along with some furniture changes and re-arranging,” Slaughter noted.
There will also be several faces among the staff, including a new elementary teacher, five new coaches, and at least four other high school staff members. Joining the elementary staff will be Robin Wheat. New coaches are Roy Moody, Megan Cullom, Jennifer Rickman, Clay Hodges and Sonny Birdwell. Also joining the high school staff are Kellyn Tolly, Julie Hill, Michelle Whalen and Jonathan Mendez.
Any students who are new to Cumby ISD can register for classes during regular business hours Monday-Friday, Aug. 18-22, by contacting Ann Cummings in the high school office. When registering their student, parents should bring copy of the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card, shot records, and any educational records; as well as proof of residency, such as a utility bill with the family’s physical address printed on it.
On Monday, Aug. 18, sixth and seventh grade orientation and ninth grade orientation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in the high school library.
An FFA parent meeting has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, in Michelle Whalen’s class, Room 116.
