PATTONVILLE — The Sulphur Springs varsity was swept Tuesday by Prairiland and North Lamar in volleyball action at Prairiland High School.
The Lady Cats fell in a five-set marathon  to the host school, 22-25, 9-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 13-15.

“We had the first game jitters and fell behind by two sets early,” explained Allison Irvin, Sulphur Springs volleyball coach. “In the second set, Prairiland had a girl who was a very accurate jump serve. She got about 10 points and we did not adjust to her top spin serve.”
Irvin said, “We came back and won the next two sets. I was a tough match to lose.”
Kaylee Jefferson turned in nine kills, she also teamed with fellow freshman Meike VanBenthem to pace the team in blocks. Desi Debase had nine kills and 15 digs. Lexie Moore had four kills and 14 digs. Katie Barnett contributed 15 assists and Jacey Mitchell turned in 13 assists and 13 digs.
The Lady Cats then took on No. 8-state ranked North Lamar and fell by 15-25, 9-25 and 16-25 scores in varsity play.
“North Lamar is very solid and talented. They play really well together,” Irvin said.
Jefferson and Debase four kills each. Barnett added 11 assists. Debase had 15 digs and Sidney Dietze added six digs. Jefferson paced the squad with three blocks and one assist.
“We missed eight serves against North Lamar,” Irvin lamented. “We can’t afford to miss that many against a team as good as North Lamar. We had 11 missed against Prairiland. We need to correct this.”
“We were nervous because it was the first game. But we have to start playing from the very first point of the first game,” Irvin said.
In sub-varsity play — the junior varsity lost to Prairiland 19-25, 17-25. The squad fell to North Lamar, 26-24, 17-25, 22-25.
In freshmen action, Sulphur Springs defeated Prairiland 25-19, 25-21. The team was defeated 13-25, 22-25 by North Lamar.
The teams will all be in tournaments.
The varsity will play in Van. The JV and freshmen play in the TVVOA Tournament in Eustace. Game times have yet to be determined.
