SSISD board to hear recommendations about handbooks, school ratings

Student handbooks, school ratings and meet the teacher activities are among the topics to be discussed by the board at tonight’s regular August meeting of Sulphur Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees.

Assistant Superintendent Betty Lawson is scheduled to report to the board about the upcoming meet the teacher activities at the various SSISD campuses, the fourth quarter update on 2013 district accountability improvement plan and will present the elementary student handbook.

Assistant Superintendent Randy Reed will present the secondary student handbook. Reed will also submit for board approval expedited and general state waivers for foreign exchange students to be submitted to Texas Education Agency.

Superintendent Michael Lamb will report on state accountability results and House Bill 5 self-evaluation. Lamb will also present to trustees for approval “Board Operating Procedures for 2014-15.”

Among the items submitted for board consideration is an amended “UIL Return to Play” form and the addition of Brad Abell to SSISD Concussion Oversight Team. Tammy Carrell is slated to present these items to the board at the 6 p.m. meeting.

Rodney White will submit his recommendation for  district copier services contracts based on bids on two proposals submitted by  Advantage Copy Systems, Copy Products and Ricohn.

SSISD Director of Maintenance and Grounds Dan Froneberger will submit his recommendations for hourly contracting rates for plumbing services.

The board is slated to enter into executive session following the administrative and action items portion of the meeting. They can discuss and consider any personnel and real property issues which fall under Title 5, Chapter 551 .072 and .074 of Texas Government Code that have been presented since the last board meeting. Trustees will then convene in open session to take any action required from the executive session. 

A “team of 8” training session is slated to follow the executive session as well.

The SSISD board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, in the board room of SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St.
