A special contest is being offered for youth in kindergarten through grade 12. The “Year of the Horse Youth Art Contest” will be held in conjunction with the Western Sports Productions Cutting Horse Tournament, Aug. 24, aimed at increasing awareness about Horse Projects in Hopkins County.
The contest will focus on the beauty and elegance of horses as exhibited through the student’s personal expression of the horse.
Artwork that best illustrates the horse will win the grand prizes in each of the two age categories. The winners of this contest will be honored at an awards ceremony to be held at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center on Aug. 24.
Entries can be a painting, drawing, photograph, collage or other two-dimensional work no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches. For contact purposes only, students must include their name, address, phone number, school and grade on the back of their artwork. All entries must be at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center indoor arena by 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.
Entrants are divided into two categories: Category A – kindergarten through grade six, as of Aug. 1; Category B – grades seven through 12, as of Aug. 1. Two grand prizes will be awarded.
Entry requirements: only one submission per student; artwork should be 100 percent produced by the student; artwork will be judged on originality of design, clarity of theme message and artistic merit.
Entries may be brought to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office, 1200-B West Houston St., Aug. 18 through Aug. 22, or taken directly to the Civic Center Arena by 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. For more information, contact Carrie Northcutt, 903-413-1340.
