Saturday afternoon I had a good visit with Mary Lou Akins, Johnny and Mary Lynn Ferguson, Ruby Long, and Carol Dunn. We talked about everything from old times to rabid skunks. And yes, we did have a rabid skunk in the community. It actually chased Clinton Lennon around for a while before he was

able to get his gun and shoot it. After testing the animal, they found that it had rabies. Everyone please be aware of that and get your animals vaccinated.

IIt is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of a good friend, Marsha (Garmon) Potts. She passed on Tuesday, July 29. Funeral arrangements are pending. Please keep her family in your prayers during this time.

Congratulations to Angela “Sissy” Poteet and her new husband, Wesley Jordan. They were married Saturday, July 26, in Miller Grove. Sissy and I were in the same class in school and graduated together in 2001.

School News: Jason Back will be replacing Jim Potts on school board. Jason has served in the past and will assume Jim’s term until it expires. Jim has served on the board for over 10 years and I know everyone is thankful for the many hours he has donated to our small community’s school. Also Mr. Lance Durham, math teacher, has turned in his resignation.

Happy birthday to Jim Lynn on July 27; Kayson Barron and Julie (Doss) Smith on July 28; Virgie Johnson, Rodney Lennon and Pam Waskom on July 30; and Bailey Penny on Aug. 1.    Happy 31st anniversary to Steve and Cathy (Scott) Rhodes on July 29. Happy fourth anniversary to Blake and Kendra (Dannheim) Fisher on July 31. Kenneth and Mary (Millsap) Smith will celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary on Aug. 2 and Jerry and Betty McGowan will also celebrate their 56th on Aug. 1.

As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
