ATOKA, Tenn. – The Hopkins County Angels won 7-3 over Oklahoma to start the Dixie Angels Girls Softball World Series.
The team then won 9-0 over host team Atoka, Tenn. Sunday.
Hopkins County plays at 8 p.m. today against North Carolina. The game will on tubetownonline.com
In the win over Oklahoma, Faith Watkins got the pitching win. Katelyn Rusheon knocked in two runs.
Against the host squad, the team shocked the home team as they came out with their bats booming.
“We hit the ball very well,” said Angels coach Chris Voorheese. “We got a two run triple from Watkins. Makayla Buchanan had a complete game shutout for the pitching win.”
The Hopkins County team will play undefeated North Carolina in a battle of unbeaten teams in the winner’s bracket.
Hopkins County is already guaranteed to be in the final four of the tournament.
North Carolina advanced to the game winning 5-2 over a tough Alabama squad.
“We are playing well and hope to continue hitting the ball,” Voorheese said. “It will be a big test today.”
