Teams play for state titles

Hopkins County teams go for state softball titles tonight.

    At Coleman Park, in the Angels X-play action, the Hopkins County team will face Lindale for the title at 7 p.m. in the Dixie state tournament
     The team won Monday by a 17-1 score over Shepherd in game moved to Commerce due to the weather.
    The Hopkins County team is 5-0 and the only undefeated squad. They have outscored opponents 74-4 during the tournament.
    Betty Sapaugh of the Hopkins County Softball Association reported that the Ponytails team will be playing for the state title tonight in Lindale at 7 p.m.
    The team won 11-1 over Liberty, defeated Bullard 9-5 and took a 6-5 win over Cleveland before downing Canton in the semifinals.
    During state softball action in Commerce, the Hopkins County Debs team has been eliminated, but the Darlings are still in action.
