Hopkins County teams have mixed results from recent softball playoff action.
The Angels-X play team is 4-0 in action at the state tournament level at Coleman Park.
The team defeated Honey Grove 13-1 to open the event, with Katelyn Rusheon and Faith Watkins combining for a no-hitter. In the next game, it was Mattison Buster with the pitching gem, getting a no-hitter as Hopkins County won 10-0 over Shepherd. The squad rolled over Fannin Co., 20-1 and defeated Lindale, 14-1.
The Hopkins County team plays today at 8 p.m. against Shepherd in the semi-finals. The state championship game will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Hopkins County team is the only team left with a perfect record in the double elimination tournament.
Also at Coleman Park, the Hopkins County Belles were in state tournament action. They won their first game 14-4 over Canton, but fell 12-11 to Commerce and were nipped, 14-12 by Lindale in close contests.
“In the Lindale tournament our Ponytails team is the only team in that tournament that is still unbeaten,” said Betty Sapaugh, Hopkins County Softball board member. “In Commerce tournament, both Debs team have been eliminated the Darlings are still in the tournament and play tonight.”
