James Travis McKeever
Funeral services for James Travis McKeever, 82, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Boyt officiating.
Military graveside honors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Union Cemetery with Arvis Tanton, Dwayne Attaway, Tyrel McKeever, Warren Attaway, Donny Attaway, Gary Attaway, Jacob McKeever and John Campbell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Lane Caffman.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mr. McKeever died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Trinity Mother Frances in Winnsboro.
Mr. McKeever was born Nov. 21, 1931, in Hopkins County, the son of E.R. and Cornelia (Horton) McKeever. They preceded him in death.
He married Ida Janette Attaway on March 28, 1953, in Yantis. She survives.
Mr. McKeever was a civil servant for the postal service for more than 30 years, retiring as postmaster in Yantis in April 1991.
He served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW.
He was also a member of Union Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Other survivors include sons James Robert McKeever and wife, Deborah, of Cleburne and David Charles McKeever of Sulphur Springs; sister Marjorie Lee Ward and husband, Kenneth, of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren Tyrell McKeever, Amber Henegar, Audra Clark, Jacob McKeever, Joshua Coffman and Amanda Trammell; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Dalton Leigh McKeever.
