    Softball action continues for local and area teams with tournaments underway at several locations.


    The opening ceremonies for the state girls tournament for the Angels (9-10 year olds) and the Belles (13-15-year olds) is scheduled at Coleman Park coming up Saturday. Admission will be charged.
    Opening ceremonies will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Lady Cat softball field located at Sulphur Springs High School.
    “We have a total of 25 teams participating there are three Angels traditional, 12 Angels X-play and 10 Belles teams,” Betty Sapaugh, Hopkins County Girls Softball Association member.
    The Hopkins County team hosts Canton at 9 a.m. Saturday in Belles action.
    The host team, Hopkins County, will play Honey Grove at 11 a.m. Saturday in Angels X- competition.
    The City of Commerce has partnered with the Dixie Softball to host the Darlings and the Debs Softball State Tournament at the Eddie Moore Sports Complex .
    Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Friday  at 6  p.m. Field One will be dedicated as the Bob Mills Memorial Field, in honor of the late Parks and Recreation Director.
    There are 11 teams in the Darlings Tournament (7 and 8-year-old) hoping to take home the state champion title. This is a double elimination bracket, which means that if a team loses two games they will go home.
    Games begin for the Darlings at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 with Fairfield taking on Franklin County and Hopkins County will match up with Cleveland.      Games for the Debs (16 – 19-year-old), which also begin at 9  a.m. on Saturday, pits Pineland against Hopkins County.  
    The Hopkins County Americans play Fannin Co. at 1 p.m.
    There are seven teams in this bracket and it is also double elimination. All games will be played at the Eddie Moore Sports Complex.
    A complete bracket for both tournaments can be found on the City of Commerce website @ www.commercetx.org.
    In other state competition - the Hopkins County Ponytails play Tri-Cities at 9 a.m. Saturday in Lindale. That tournament, featuring 12 teams, continues through Tuesday.
