    Funeral services for D.A. Thurman, 95, of Colorado City, formerly of Big Spring, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Dr. Jerry Sheilds officiating. 

    Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.    
    D. A. Thurman died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, in a Colorado City nursing home.
    He was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Sulphur Springs and married Ella Mae Carpenter Sept. 26, 1939, in Sulphur Springs. She survives.
    He moved to Colorado City in 1950 and then to Big Spring in 1952.
    He worked as an electrician for Caldwell Electric for over 34 years. In 2007, he moved back to Colorado City.
    Mr. Thurman was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring and a member of First Baptist Church in Colorado City. He was a member of Staked Plains Lodge 598 A.F.&A.M. and was a longtime member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners.
    Other survivors include a daughter, Shirley McPhaul of Colorado City; a son, Jerry Thurman and wife, Medena, of Dallas; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donnie Thurman; one brother; and three sisters.
