One man sustained a gunshot wound and another an arm fracture following a disturbance in Saltillo Sunday afternoon. Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating to try to determine exactly what happened.
Dispatchers at 4:23 p.m. Sunday received a report of a person being shot on County Road 3366 in Saltillo.
When sheriff’s officers arrived at the location, the site where a house was under construction, they reported two men had been injured.
“One was flown to Tyler for a gunshot wound to the chest. The other was taken to Sulphur Springs, to the emergency room, with a fractured arm last night. Both were still alive,” HCSO Chief Investigator Lewis Tatum said Monday.
The full details of what happened were still being investigated Monday.
Tatum said sheriff’s investigators and the Ranger were still investigating the case, which they definitively reported stemmed from a disturbance at the CR 3366 house, which was under construction. The incident escalated with one man shot and another injured. Alcohol was believed to be a large factor.
No arrest had been made in relation to the injuries nor had names of those involved been released at noon Monday.
Tatum said once the investigation is complete, the officials will turn their findings over to the district attorney to determine what further steps will be taken toward prosecution.
