Alliance Bank is offering a way to help make people a little cooler during the Independence Day Celebration Saturday while raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Alliance Bank staff will be offering patriotic handfans on the downtown square starting at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, until the fireworks display begins or all of the fans are gone.

A donation of $1 per fan is asked, with Alliance Bank matching the total raised from the sale, with all funds raised going toward the Wounded Warrior Project.

Just look for an Alliance Bank staff members on Celebration Plaza during the Independence Day Celebration Saturday, June 29, or call Angie Dunn at Alliance Bank at 903-439-6733 with the number of patriotic fans needed to obtain them in advance.

The Sulphur Springs Symphony League is hosting the Independence Day Celebration 2014 on Saturday, with music beginning at 8 p.m.

The Northeast Texas Symphony Orchestra, led by Dr. Douglas Bakenhus, will perform prior to a fireworks display.

Among the guests will be Sulphur Springs native Kim Baxter singing the national anthem, sixth-grader Mason Gillem serving as guest conductor and Michael Rorex performing solos.

Rorex, associate professor of music at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., will sing “God Bless America,” which is his favorite patriotic song. This is his third time to perform with the orchestra.

Fireworks, which are scheduled to begin at dusk, will wrap up the evening’s activities.
