Sulphur Springs student/athletes welcomed “The Edge” with welcome arms and legs according to their attendance this week in the two-hour exercise program.
Coaches reported an average of 190-200 students per day for the workout held in the multi-purpose building.
“Wow, it was a great first day! Kids worked hard and came ready to work. I was really encouraged by the number of kids and maybe our largest first day ever. We are excited about their attitudes and work ethic. It's going to be a great summer,” said Greg Owens, Sulphur Springs head football coach and athletic director.
Matt Young, football offensive coordinator/track coach at SSHS, echoed remarks made by Owens.
“It was a great first week,”Young said. “Finishing with the hill sprints at Buford Park. We are very proud of our kids this week and look forward to them continuing next week. This week was a lot of teaching and we are looking for it to carryover into next week's reps. We have had a great turnout with our younger guys (over 80 between eighth and ninth graders) and a strong showing for our Lady Cats.”
Young added, “As always the program is a process and true gains come from attending day after day week after week for the entire six-week program.”
