Military graveside services for James Houston Winnett, age 95, of Sulphur Springs will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Rhoades will be officiating.
Visitation will be at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 23.
Mr. Winnett passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Carriage House Manor.
Mr. Winnett was born June 3, 1919, in the Seymore community, Hopkins County, Texas, to Sam Houston and Laura Eva Williams Winnett.
Mr. Winnett married Marcelle Rowe on Aug. 24, 1940, in Brashear, Texas; she preceded him in death in 2005.
Mr. Winnett served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from the camera department at the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram.
For 60 years, he was a member of the Central Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon.
He is survived by his daughter, Anita and husband, Ronny Glossup ,of Sulphur Springs; his brother, Wilburn and wife, Carla Winnett, of Sulphur Springs; granddaughter Melanie and husband, Jonas Helm, of Sulphur Springs; and great-grandchildren Caitlin and Lauren Helm.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Buford and Rayburn Winnett; and two sisters, Pearlie Fox and Lorene Fields.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church Missions Fund or the Hopkins County Genealogical Society.
