DALLAS — Sulphur Springs golfer Brody Blackmon got the chance to play with the best in the state.
While Blackmon did not make the final cut and get to play in the last two days of the Texas Golf Association State Public Links Amateur event, but he got some valuable experience.
Blackmon had rounds of 78 and 74 for a two-day total of 152. He missed the cut in the tournament by three strokes.
Taking first place in the 105th annual event was Will Zalatoris of Plano with scores of 68-71-67-68-274 edging out Statton Nolen of Austin who carded at 277. Stuart Smallwood of Paris had a 292 score.
“Brody played at the Vaquero Club in Westlake,” said Michelle Blackmon. “He is playing this week in Wichita Falls at the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament. His brother, Zach, will be caddying for him there. Brody, 16, shot a first round score of 74 during Monday competition.
