An 86-year-old Sulphur Bluff woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 19 south at Mahoney Road, just north of Sulphur Springs. At least two others were transported to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
Laurine Foley was pronounced dead at the crash site at 4:45 p.m. by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Ronny Glossup, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers noted on crash reports.
Hopkins County and Dike firefighters, sheriff’s deputies, emergency medical services personnel and troopers were dispatched at 4:17 p.m. Saturday and Sulphur Springs Fire Department at 4:19 p.m. to State Highway 19 at FM 1537, where two cars reportedly crashed, trapping at least one person and fatally injuring one, according to sheriff’s reports.
Linda Blake, 53, was reportedly driving a 2010 Chrysler Sebring south on State Highway 19. Foley was a passenger in the Sebring. Amanda Edmonson, 31, of Sulphur Springs was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro north on SH 19. Krista Vaughan, 23, of Sulphur Springs was a passenger in the Camaro.
Blake failed to yield right-of-way to the northbound Camaro before turning left onto FM 1537 in the Sebring, causing the two cars to collide, noted Texas DPS Trooper Justin Harrison, who lead the crash investigation.
Foley died at the scene. Blake, Edmonson and Vaughan all reportedly received “non-incapacitating” injuries. At least two of the other women in the crash were transported by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in stable condition Saturday, according to DPS reports.
