Pro baseball
tryouts set
at Hallsville
 HALLSVILLE — Area baseball players will have a chance to try out for the Tampa Bay Rays in an open campe set for June 11 at Hallsville High School’s baseball field.

  The Rays are interested in any local players whose skills would be an asset to the team. Players will be evaluated on running, throwing, fielding and hitting abilities.
    The camp is for players ages 16-21, and the camp will be supervised by Rays scout Pat Murphy and under the direction of scout Scott Mitchell.
    Registration will be at 8:30 a.m., with workout to follow.
The Rays will provide all equipment with the exception of glove, spikes and catcher’s gear.

June 14
    The Cumby girls volleyball car wash/fundraiser will be held June 14 at O’Reilly’s in Sulphur Springs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

festival Sept. 20
    RICHARDSON  – The Lone Star Football Festival returns to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for the fourth straight year in 2014, and will feature four games in a single day on Saturday, Sept. 20.
     The lineup includes two Lone Star Conference tilts and a pair of non-conference games featuring opponents from the Gulf South Conference.  Texas A&M-Commerce faces Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Midwestern State goes against Eastern New Mexico in league action.  West Texas A&M plays Shorter (Georgia), and Tarleton State meets Florida Tech in non-conference play.
     The action starts at 10 a.m. with A&M-C vs. TAMUK, followed by WT-Shorter at 1 p.m., TSU-FIT at 5 p.m., and MSU-ENMU at 8 p.m. to conclude the football-filled day.
    A single ticket will be good for admission to all four games at the festival, with sales to begin in early June. Advance purchases will be rewarded with rates of $25 for adults and $10 for students.

Baseball tourneys
set in Commerce
    STRIKES! Baseball in conjunction with the Monster Baseball Academy will host four tournaments this summer at Commerce High School, the Eddie Moore Sports Complex and Texas A&M University at Commerce.  
 The cost for each team is $350 with a $150 gate fee payable before the team's first game.
