Being named valedictorian and salutatorian of a class are the highest honors, but the top students at Cumby Junior High this year share a lot more than just top recognition. Ashley and Samantha Hagood are not only related and sisters at that, but are identical twins — making the moment twice as remarkable.

They are the daughters of Cathy Monroe and Richard Hagood of Cumby, and older sisters of Chayton Monroe.
Ashley and Samantha Hagood have attended Cumby ISD since fourth grade. They both said they love going to school at Cumby and are excited about going to high school next year.
Both girls have also been involved in many activities at Cumby Junior High while maintaining high grade point averages.
Samantha narrowly edged out her sister Ashley to become the top-ranked student in Cumby eighth grade. She finishes junior high with a 96. 1 average.
The CJHS 2014 eighth grade valedictorian said she enjoys reading and sports. She plays basketball, volleyball and softball, and runs cross country.
Samantha is also an active member of her youth group and is a second year member of her Beta Club.
Ashley finished as the second ranked eighth grade student this year in Cumby Junior High with a 95.8 average.
She said she loves sport and plays basketball, volleyball and softball, and runs cross country.
The salutatorian too is an active member of her youth group and serves as secretary of the Beta Club.
Ashley said she the outdoors and loves to hunt. She wants to be a game warden when she graduates college.
