Happy belated Mother’s Day to all of the mom’s in our area! My day Sunday consisted of going to church and then lunch at home with my parents and my brother’s family. It was a leisurely day which was a good change for me. The last few weeks have been busy and
it felt good to just relax and get to see my niece and nephews.
Last week, we got a good dowsing of rain. I’m not sure exactly how much we received but I know it greened everything up. I especially noticed how nice Patsy Yates and Clinton Lennon’s garden looked after the rain.
Congratulations to our boys that went to state in Track this year. This past weekend was the State Track Meet held in Austin. Nathan George placed second in the 800-meter and fifth in the 1600-meter run. Logan Miller took fourth in the 3200-meter and 9th in the 800-meter race. We also had a group of boys that placed ninth in the 4x400-meter relay. The team consisted of Trey Lester, Brennan Green, Logan Miller and Nathan George. Well done boys!
Miller Grove High School has announced that Mark Allen will be the 2014 graduating class valedictorian and Patrick Covington will be the salutatorian. I know both of these young men very well from when I worked at school and I know that each of them are extremely hard workers and they have a bright future ahead of them.
We also had some students that went to the Regional Academic UIL competitions in Nacogdoches on May 3.
Happy birthday to Travis Lennon on May 11, Laryn (Cummings) Sawyer and Eddie McElvy on May 12, Tommie Jean (Clark) Lennon on May 14, Jesse Weaver on May 15, and my sweet aunt Betty Phillips on May 16.
Happy 26th anniversary to Darren and Sheila (Dougan) Renshaw on May 14. Happy fourth anniversary to Cole and Kim Burnett on May 15.
Just a reminder that the End-of-School Stew will be held at Miller Grove on Friday, May 23. Please come out and enjoy a big bowl of stew to celebrate the ending of another successful year of school!
I have heard that County Line School historical marker should be delivered by September. Well, that is the latest word from the Texas Historical Commission. I contacted them two weeks ago and they said that the County Line School marker is number 25 in line to have the inscription written. Then, the text will be approved and the wording will be sent to the foundry to cast the marker.
