Floyd and Martha Payton met with members of Martha's family for dinner at Vaughn's Catfish on Thursday evening, May 1. Regina Payton from Victoria met them there just in time for dinner. Martha reports, “We had twenty family members in attendance. On
Saturday we all met for a Memorial service for Ronny Petty, a nephew, at Willow Oak Baptist Fellowship Hall, with burial of Ron's ashes across the road at Willow Oak Cemetery. From there we traveled to Pittsburg for lunch at Pizza Inn. There were 62 in attendance. After lunch we met at a brothers home for fellowship and open space for the children. After visiting we had our evening meal of sandwiches, chips, drinks and dessert prepared by the older sisters. This service was delayed due to the terrible ice storm in December. All returned home safely.” We want to extend our sympathy and prayers to the family.
Judy and Linda Petty are having a garage sale on Saturday in Tira — 14 miles north of Sulphur Springs, then about 1 mile east on FM 1536. They have “lots of good stuff for men and women.”
Michael McNiel surprised his mother, Joyce Dodd, with a visit on Mother's Day. Rob Dodd brought lunch for the family, so that Joyce would not have to cook. Brad, Tanya, and Matthew Dodd also joined Joyce, William, Michael, and Rob in the celebration. Tonja (Dodd) Jones could not be with them, because she had to spend Mother's Day at work. Michael and Joyce visited Robert, Yvonne, Wes and Destri Weir Sunday afternoon. Yvonne is recovering from back surgery. Chip and I visited them for a little while on Monday evening, and then on Tuesday, Brenda Allen spent the day with Yvonne, and she and I prepared lunch to share with them.
Our son, Delayne Vaughn, of Waco, was home for a visit over Mother's Day weekend. Chip and his sister, Linda Ellen Vaughn, gave me the day off, while they prepared lunch for our family on Sunday. Others present were Grace Vaughn and Tiffany, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin. After lunch, Jacob, Collin and Tyler Peugh stopped by for a visit and brought roses to Tiffany for Mother's Day.
Landon, Laiken, Rylan and Brailon Joslin celebrated Mother's Day with Laiken's family.
I have been informed of the death of Phyllis Weir. Although not a resident of Tira, she had family ties to our community. Her funeral service has not been planned, yet. Please keep her family in your prayers.
