The Saltillo FFA Agricultural Mechanics Team placed fourth in the Texas FFA State Judging Contest, held at Sam Houston State University Friday, May 2.

The Saltillo team consisting of Marc Boekhorst, James Stretcher, Tucker Johnson and Jeff Holter advanced to state by earning first place honors at the area elimination contest held at Texas A&M-Commerce in April. Michael Teague is the Saltillo FFA advisor. Boekhorst was recognized as the seventh-highest individual at the awards ceremony.

The event has three parts, a 100-question quiz, a team problem-solving activity and three individual skill activities. Thirty teams throughout the state competed at the contest. The theme for the contest this year is agricultural forage cutters, with emphasis on metal storage structures, concrete and low voltage DC electrical systems.

Approximately 12,700 students began the statewide Agricultural Mechanics Career Development tournament in 28 different events which reflect classroom instruction in basic technical, leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
