Sulphur Bluff teams both went down in defeat during Thursday playoff competition.
The Lady Bears, district champions, were defeated 16-0 in Game 1 Class 1A, Region II against Sam Rayburn in Thursday playoff action contested at the City of Paris sports complex.
Game 2 will be at the same location at 5 p.m., today, a third game if needed will be immediately following.
Sulphur Bluff was held without a hit for four innings. The Lady Bears only had two hits on the night.
Sam Rayburn, 16-11, got the pitching win from Carly Park. Hannah Fulmer knocked in five runs to pace the squad. Abbie Dow was 3 for 3 with four RBI.
The Sulphur Bluff Bears had a great game, but it wasn’t enough.
Justin Goldsmith threw a complete game one hitter, but the Bears lost 2-0 to Avery in the Class 1A, Region II area baseball playoffs. Game 1 was played in Pattonville at the Prairiland High School field.
Pitcher Gage Berry of Avery had a perfect game. No runners reached base all night. None by hits, walks or errors. He struck out 14 batters in the game.
Goldsmith had a gem of his own, just allowing two runs, one hit, walking two according to coach Blake Hill.
“We have to regroup and go see their other pitcher tonight,” coach Hill said.
Game 2 is set today at 6 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill. Game 3 will be Saturday at Prairiland at 7 p.m., if necessary.
