A 20-year-old Yantis man was arrested earlier this month for allegedly having sex with a junior high age girl on Yantis school grounds.
Joshua Michael Tutor was arrested April 4 by Wood County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was released from jail April 10 on a $25,000 surety bond.
According to Wood County Sheriff Jim Brown, while the incident did occur outside on the school grounds, it did not occur during school hours and did not involve school personnel.
The victim made an outcry April 3 and school officials contacted the sheriff’s office. The suspect was interviewed and was placed into custody following that interview.
Brown said the case is ongoing so he would be unable to comment further on the investigation, but did say it was his understanding the man did not have a valid reason to be at the school when the offense occurred. The girl is the only known victim at this time.
However, KLTV reported that an affidavit they obtained from WCSO indicated the victim and two friends were interviewed about the alleged sexual assault on Yantis school playground. The statement noted the girl made the outcry to her mother and indicated Tutor pressured her to have sex. The victim’s mother provided “a string of text messages” between the teenager and Tutor. Tutor admitted to having sex with the victim, fully aware she was underage, KLTV reported.
