When Jan Williams and Evan DeHart saw a recent WFFA-TV report about a project involving used wedding dresses, they decided to do something similar in Hopkins County.
The Angel Gown Project will donate repurposed wedding gowns to families of babies who are stillborn or die shortly after birth. The fabric and lace will be used to make burial gowns and given to families free of charge.
“There is really nothing out there for babies to be buried in,” DeHart said. “Hopkins County Memorial Hospital is happy someone is doing this.”
The project has already collected two wedding gowns. Williams and DeHart plan a work day on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Sulphur Bluff United Methodist Church.
“Even if you don’t sew, you can help us cut out patterns or glue or iron,” DeHart. “We will welcome the help.”
Anyone wishing to donate a gown or wishing to be part of the team for the Angel Gown Project should contact DeHart at 903-945-2254
