FORT WORTH — Garrett Landers earned a ticket to the state golf UIL golf tournament in Austin as the Wildcats took ninth place in Tuesday’s regional play at Waterchase Golf Club.
Landers blistered the field for a 70 score the first round of play and carded a 77 on Tuesday. His total of 147 was the second best score among all Class 4A golfers at the regional event.
“He is going to state. He had a little trouble with his putter on the last day. Great tournament finish for him. He is excited about the work to be done before state and preparing to finish well there as well,” said Ross Funk, Sulphur Springs golf coach.
Sulphur Springs dropped from fourth place the first day to ninth.
The field had 16 teams and 16 individuals competing as medalists.
The Wildcats played well with a 329 score Monday under cold and windy conditions at the course.
The second day, the weather improved, but the Wildcats saw their team total increase by 16 strokes.
