Miller Grove Independent School District will soon be enrolling three- and four-year-olds for prekindergarten and five-year-olds in kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year.

The annual kindergarten and pre-k round-up will be conducted during regular business hours weekdays April 7-18 in Miller Grove Elementary Office.

In order to enroll, the parent or guardian of the applicant child must provide at the time of enrollment the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization records; the enrolling person’s driver’s license; and proof of residence, such as a utility bill or complete a transfer request.

In order to apply for kindergarten, the applicant child must be five years old on or before Sept. 1.

Students currently enrolled in pre-k and kindergarten do not have to re-enroll for the 2014-2015 school year. Registration is only for eligible children who are new to the district.

To be eligible to apply for a pre-k slot, the student must be either three or four years old on or before Sept. 1 and be potty trained. To qualify, the eligible student must provide all required registration documentation and meet one or more of the six qualifications listed below:

  • Qualify for the free or reduced school meal program, which is based on household income as established by state guidelines; be unable to speak and comprehend English;
  • Be homeless;
  • Be the child of an active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces or reserve component of the Armed Forces or a member of the Armed Forces who was injured or killed while serving in active duty;
  • Or have ever been in conservatorship (foster care) of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing.

Pre-k applicants who do not meet at least one of those qualifications may enroll in MGISD for a tuition fee of $300 per six weeks.
