Sulphur Springs trustees spent most of Monday night’s school board meeting in executive session, considering contracts for administrative and support staff.
The Sulphur Springs school board also accepted resignations from 10 staff members, including early notice of retirement from four teachers and a secretary, and hired two aides.
Announcing intent to retire at the end of the school year were Sulphur Springs Elementary math teacher Gayle Rainey, Sulphur Springs Middle School physical education teacher and coach Mary Watson, Sulphur Springs High School theater arts and speech teacher Dawn Doyle-Jones and English teacher Evelyn Kattes, and special services secretary Aleta Young.
Other resignations accepted Monday included SSES security officer Barry Washington, SSMS special education aide Donna Lambert and computer lab aide Sandra Noe, and SSHS English teacher Sandy Brown and math teacher Beverly Gaston.
Ashlee Hall was hired as a district-wide special education aide and Jeffrey Denton as a special education aide at SSMS.
The board approved 12-month contract extensions for the following full-time professional certified instructional administrative personnel and administrative support services personnel for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years: Assistant Food Service Director Veronica Arnold, SSISD Grants Administrator Sherry Chester, SSHS Athletic Director/football coach Greg Owens, SSMS Academic Specialist Rachel Draper, SSHS science teacher Karen Phillips, SSISD Director of Assessment and PEIMS Jason Evans, SSISD Transportation Director Larry Finney, SSISD Curriculum Director Lisa Robinson, SSISD Director of Human Resources and Communications Rusty Harden, SSISD Assistant Superintendent Betty Lawson, SSMS Principal Jena Williams, SSHS Principal Josh Williams and SSHS Academic Specialist Glenda Wright.
Twelve month contract extensions approved for half-time professional certified instructional administrative personnel and administrative support services personnel for the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years were SSHS Administrative Assistant Dwayne McMeans and SSISD Assistant Superintendents Randy Reed and Judy Tipping.
Eleven month contract extensions were extended to SSHS Assistant Principal/Attendance Vanessa Abron, SSES Academic Specialist Ashanta Alexander, Alternative Education Program Administrative Assistant Julie Ashmore, SSHS Assistant Principal Steve Carter, Early Childhood Learning Center Principal Sherry Finney, Douglas Intermediate Principal Holly Folmar, Travis Primary Principal Juan Harrison, Lamar Primary Principal Rowena Johnson, SSHS Director of Fine Arts/Bands Charles McCauley, Special Education Director Kay McClure, SSES Principal Kristin Monk, SSHS Career and Technology Director Tommy Panter, SSISD English as a Second Language/Bilingual Director Shelley Patterson, SSMS Assistant Principals Shawn Sinclair and Karen Willis, Bowie Primary Principal Carol Worsham and Head Start Director Hillary Young.
Non-certified administrative personnel approved for 12-month contract extensions include Food Service Director Rickie Elliott as a half-time staff, and Tax Collector Sandra Gibby and Business Manager Sherry McGraw.
