Seven members of the Sulphur Springs boys powerlifting team qualified for regional competition Saturday in Lindale.
Luis Gamez is ranked No. 1 in the 132-division. His best for the year is a 1,015 pound total from a squat of 385, bench of 250, dead lifting 380.
Jesse Ortiz is the No. 2 ranked lifter in the 123-pound class. He has a 930 pound best from a squat of 355, bench of 195 and dead lift of 380 pounds.
In the 181-pound division, Dedric Smith is ranked No. 4. He has a squat of 460, bench press of 260, dead lift of 500 for a total of 1,220 pounds.
In the 132-pound class, Taylor Ibarra has a No. 5 ranking. He has a squat of 330, bench press of 195 and dead lift of 305 for an 830 total.
Dylan Izzi is ranked sixth in the 123-pound class. Top lifts include a squat of 300, bench of 190, dead lift of 330 for a total of 820 pounds.
Scott Galarza is ranked seventh in the 132-pound division. He has a squat of 265, bench of 175, dead lift of 320 for a total of 760.
Also in the 181-pound class, Zach Spigner has a squat of 395, bench of 260, dead lift of 465 for a 1,120 total. Spigner is ranked 10th.
Jeremy Offutt, Wildcat powerlifting coach said, “The guys that should make it if all goes normally will be Ortiz in the 123s and Gamez in the 132s. Dedric Smith (35 pounds. out of second in the 181s) will have an opportunity to get into the top two to qualify for state.”
