Sulphur Springs Rotary Club is seeking adult spelling teams to participate in the 9th Annual Rotary Spelling Bee on Thursday, March 20. The event will be held in Sulphur Springs Middle School cafeteria.

The first 12 businesses or groups to register teams of three adult spellers and pay the $300 registration fee will participate in the contest. The three individuals on each team must be employees of the company or members of the group. Companies not wishing to spell, but interested in supporting the event, can sponsor a team made up of participants of a non-profit organization.

Tickets for the March 20 event are available for $10 from members of the Rotary Club, Professional Land and Title, Town and Country Cleaners, Vibrant Home Health Care or at the door.

“The ticket includes dinner and watching the action-packed contest, which is always entertaining. Silent and live auctions will also be held that evening,” noted event coordinators Crissy Kuiper and Kayla Price in a press release.

Last year, over $15,125 was raised and donated back to the local community. Last year's proceeds provided $6,000 in scholarships to several local students. The remaining $9,125 was distributed among the Sulphur Springs Adult Leadership Class, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Club, CASA, Dairy Classic, Dinner Bell, Friends of the Sulphur Springs Public Library, Hopkins County Genealogy Society, Heritage Christian Counseling,  Hopkins County Historical Society, the North East Texas Livestock Auction, Our Place, Star Foundation, Sulphur Springs Symphony League, Teen Court, Terrific Tuesdays, Veteran's Memorial and Work Camp.

The doors will open for dinner at 5:30 p.m. March 20; the program will follow at 6:30 pm.

Rotary Club hopes to raise at least $15,000 again this year to donate back to local community organizations.
