I received word from the Texas Historical Commission last week that County Line School has been approved for the historical marker that we applied for this fall. Hopefully it will be ready to install by September of this year. Now that they have approved the application for a historical marker, the Texas Historical Commission will write the text for the marker and, after approval, they will send the order to the foundry to be cast.

Sunday, Feb. 2, Misty Briggs and Undray Smallwood were married in the Sand Flat community of Rains County. Misty’s mother is Connie Briggs and her grandmother is Faye Tipps.

I’m sorry to say that there was a burial in the cemetery again this week. Grace Cheryl (Spivey) Wharton was born Sept. 13, 1950, in Hunt County, Texas, to Daniel Floyd Spivey and Martha Lee (Ethridge) Spivey. She passed away on Jan. 30, 2014. She was employed by Mesquite ISD and later by Sunnyvale ISD as a teacher’s aide and was an active member at Family Landmark Fellowship. She married Johnny Wharton on Aug. 18, 1969, in Henderson County, Texas. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sandra Spivey and twin brother Gerald “Bud” Spivey. She is survived by husband of 44 years, John Wharton; son Leland Wharton and wife, Gena; daughter Casandra Wharton-Sherrin and husband, Matt; son Marcus Wharton; grandson Conner Smart; brother Terry Spivey and wife, Mildred; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation was held on Feb. 1, at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 3, at 10:30 a.m. with interment following in Miller Grove Cemetery.

Happy birthday this week to Kaden Mabe on Feb. 2, Lance Mabe on Feb. 4, Stephen Sparks on Feb. 6 and Jesse Ballentine on Feb. 8.
