I would like to thank everyone who attended the Chamber Banquet last week. We had close to 450 people in attendance for “Mardi Gras, Hopkins County Style.” In case you couldn’t make it, you missed a wonderful dinner, catered by Andy and MaryLou Wright of BirthWright Bar B Que, a very interesting speaker, Dr. Dan Jones, president of Texas A&M University-Commerce, and the presentation of several, well-deserved awards:

  • Citizen of the Year — Marc Maxwell
  • Lady of the Year — Wanda Galyean
  • Large Business of the Year — NETX Farmer’s Co-op, Brad Johnson and Harold Bryant
  • Small Business of the Year — Millennium Shopper, Joy Wilson
  • Caregiver of the Year — Albert Reeves Sr.
  • Agriculturist of the Year — Morgan and Kim Anderson
  • Ambassador of the Year — Cecile Blount
  • Community Pride Awards — Brian Burney; SSHS Athletic Department, Greg Owens
  • Growth & Renewal Award — Billie Ruth Standbridge
  • Educator of the Year — Shari Mohl

Thank you to the News-Telegram for their coverage of the banquet. I would also like to thank the banquet committee — Bob Weaver, Polly Swatsell, Lynda Hager, Glenda Bassham, Bobby McDonald, Laura Brannon, Lynn Luttrell and Jackie Thornton for all of their hard work. Also, a huge thank you to all of the other board members and Ambassadors who worked so hard to make the banquet such a huge success! Congratulations to all of the Award Recipients!!!!

Don’t miss the annual Northeast Texas Livestock Association’s Junior Market Livestock Show! These 260 young people have invested their time, talents and money in the care and feeding of premium stock, and it is very important that we, as a community, support their efforts and help them to learn that good ol’ fashioned hard work and pride of accomplishment are still worth the effort. Sulphur Springs Gymnastics

to Host State Qualifier

America the Beautiful Invitational is the name of the gymnastics competition that will be held at the Sulphur Springs Gymnastics Center from February 28th-March 1st. Why is it called that, you may ask? Not only is it a very important meet for the hundreds of gymnasts that will attend, but it will also be a tribute to a fallen soldier, Allen Mosteiro who was killed in Iraq. He was the brother of one of the head coaches at the Gymnastics Center. So, to honor all of our current and former members of the American Armed Forces, all active duty military and their families will be given free admission to the competition. For more information, call 903-438-0748!

Sulphur Springs, TX 75482
903-885-885-1549

Thought for the Week:

“If you have leftover pizza, freeze it. When you want it again, wrap it in Saran Wrap and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds; slice, and it will be just as good as the first time.
“We would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support over the years.”

That’s all for now ... have a GREAT week!
