Sulphur Springs got first place overall  Saturday in the Sulphur Springs Annual poweriflting meet.
Sulphur Springs head powerlifting coach Rodney Flowers said, “We had three first place lifters, six second place lifters, two third place, and a fourth place lifter. Eddie Arciga also won the plaque for the pound-for-pound strongest lifter in the light weight class. This is the third consecutive meet for Eddie to win this award and third first place overall finish.”
The coach continued, “Some guys were able to improve their standings in the region.We can only sit and wait to see if their numbers hold up until the regional cut-off. Regionals is on March 12 at Lindale High School. The top 10 in their weight class get to compete at the meet.”
The following athletes placed:
In the 132-pound weight class Taylor Link finished second with a 970-pound total. 
In the 148-pound weight class Eddie Arciga took first with a 1,135-pound total. 
In the 148-pound weight class JR Rivera was second with a 1,060-pound total.
In the 165-pound weight class LeMarcus Kendricks took second with a 1035-pound total.
In the 165-pound weight class Cody Kalb captured third with a 1,030-pound total.
In the 181-pound weight class Joe Scott took second with a 1,220-pound total.
In the 198-pound weight class Jake Russell got first with a 1,350-pound total.
In the 198-pound weight class Tyler Higginbotham took third with a 1,160-pound total.
In the 198-pound weight class Jimmy Villa was second with a 1,175-pound total.
In the Super Heavy weight class Andrew Burton took first with a 1,480-pound total.
In the Super Heavy weight class Mason Y'Barbo finished fourth with a 1,380-pound total.
In the Super Heavy weight class Tadarius Johnson took second with a 1,430-pound total.
The next meet is regionals in Lindale on March 12th.
Flowers added, “Thanks to those of you that helped with our meet this past Saturday.”  
The event was held at the SSHS gymnasium.
