The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats ended their softball tournament with an 8-0 shutout win over Royse City.
The Saturday morning game seemed to agree with the Lady Cats as they scored eight times on eight hits and took advantage of two Royse City errors.
Kaci Kennedy pitched 3.2 innings, facing 14 batters, allowing one hit, no runs, walking two and striking out five. Relief help came from Bailee Speaker. Speaker faced two batters, walking one and striking out one.
Maurie Lewis continued to swing a hot bat as she knocked in thre runs with a double and scored a run. JaMonica Hall, the leadoff hit, scored three times and also hit a three-run double. Katie Dodd knocked in two runs and Krista McMahan also had one hit and one RBI. Mac Morgan scored twice and had three hits. T’Kea Johnson and Kara Tomlinson also had hits and scored runs.
Sulphur Springs scored twice in the first inning, added three more in the third and three more in the fourth frame.
The Lady Cats went 4-1 in the tournament. They downed Frisco Liberty 8-1; lost to Frisco Wakeland, 9-4 but had a 12-6 win over Rockwall-Heath with an impressive 13-0 decision over Mabank.
Morgan is hitting .684 for the year with 13 hits in six games; Speaker is hitting .500 with Lewis at .474 and Hall at .471.
The team plays at home Tuesday with the JV playing North Lamar at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity taking on Lindale at 7 p.m.
