I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday! I had a nice Thanksgiving at my uncle’s house. We had lots of good food and several relatives there to visit with. I missed getting to see some of the folks in the family who were unable to make it.
Another week of offering my condolences to families who are having loved ones being buried in Miller Grove Cemetery. Sunday afternoon there was a graveside service in the cemetery for Ronald Louis Milke Jr. He was a nephew to Joan (Powell) Garrett. The funeral was held at Turrentine Jackson Funeral Home in Allen at 10 a.m. Sunday. Mr. Milke passed away Nov. 23, while residing in New York. He was born to Ron and Marilyn (Powell) Milke on Oct. 21, 1961, in Austin. He was preceded in death by his mother and is survived by numerous family members.
My sympathies also go out to the Lacey family. Bro. Cullen Lacey passed on Nov. 27, at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs. He and Mrs. Lacey (Lorraine) have lived in Miller Grove more than 10 years. Their house is the old Ed and Faye Gilley home on FM 275. Mr. Lacey was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Hemphill, the son of John David and Murdie (Waller) Lacey. Bro. Lacey received his ordination in 1966 after retiring from Southwestern Bell. He is survived by four sons and one daughter as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. with interment in Miller Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by West Oaks Funeral Home.
My cousin, Gary Darrow, passed away this week. He was born Gary Reeves Darrow on March 21, 1941, in the Miller Grove community to William Boyd Darrow and Eula Mae (Grayson) Darrow. He moved to the Greenview community upon retirement. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Darrow) Clements, and son, Gary Keith Darrow; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret (Darrow) Cain. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Miller Grove Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Last week, I saw Cole Burnett while I was in Atwoods in Sulphur Springs. He and his wife are expecting a child in the upcoming year. Congratulations to them!
Happy birthday this week to Patsy (Jobe) Johnson on Dec. 1; Darrell May on Dec. 2; Kip Knowles on Dec. 4; and Jeremy Darrow, Justin Shackelford, James Oler and Tyler Lennon on Dec. 5.
I heard that Faye Tipps had a good 80th birthday last week. She went to the casino in Grant, Okla., and won a little money.
