Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and before you know it, it will be Christmas. I can’t believe that the year has flown by so fast. Seems like I catch myself saying that more and more as I get older. My mom’s side of the family will be having their Thanksgiving meal this weekend and my dad’s will be on Thanksgiving Day.

I was excited to find out exactly how much money was made at the Fall Carnival this year. Angie McCrary, who works at the school, told me that they made a total just shy of $4,000. That isn’t counting the money made by PTO, which was just over $4,500. So, a total of $8,500 generated at the carnival to benefit the school is pretty good in my book!

The other day Gail Garmon told me that County Line Baptist Church was so excited that their church was able to help Samaritan’s Purse reach children worldwide with simple shoebox gifts.

Yes, Samaritan’s Purse has reached over 100 million children since 1993 through Operation Christmas Child, in the Name of Jesus Christ. The shoebox gifts are sent out to 150 different countries to needy children.

Their little church has put forth a combined effort including vacation Bible school children, teens and adults to this mission. They would like to thank several people for special contributions: Dr. Sharon Hatcher, FEC, First National Bank of Emory, Cumby Telephone Co-op, and all the many others for their generosity in helping the project this year. They had filled 766 boxes as of Saturday afternoon, but after a few more boxes came in and their count ended up being 792 (counting 11 boxes that were collected at Daugherty church). As Gail said, “Praise be to God our Heavenly Father!” They delivered the boxes to Canton this Monday. What a great goal to have reached and a great challenge to exceed this number for next year!

Ken and Phyllis (Renshaw) Haywood just returned from a trip to Paris. And no, I don’t mean Paris, Texas. I heard they had a good time and enjoyed seeing the sights there. But, as always, it is good to be home from any vacation.

Happy birthday this week to Matt Garrett on Nov. 17, Callie (Smith) Glover on Nov. 20 and Stevie Tipps on Nov. 22.
