A big congratulations this week goes out to our Miller Grove Hornets Cross Country Team! They were able to sweep the Regional Track Meet, wining first place, and now will be headed to Austin as competitors in the state meet.
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Jean Wren last week. When I think of Jean I think about what a quite, calm, and pleasant person she was. Always positive even throughout her battle with lung cancer. She was an inspiration to many people and was loved by anyone who knew her. She was born Jean Delores Crawford on June 20, 1934, in Luke, Md. She married Billy Ray Wren on Apr. 20, 1957, in Piedmont, W.Va. Her church membership was with New Shirley Baptist Church in the Shirley community of Hopkins County. Jean passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, at Baylor Medical Center in Irving surrounded by her family. Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov. 1, at West Oaks Funeral Home with interment following in Greenview Cemetery. She is survived by her husband and children, Tim, Pam, Julie and Amy, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Saturday, Nov. 2, the ashes of Don Byrd were laid to rest in the Miller Grove Cemetery. Don was the son of Earl Byrd and grandson of the late Wilma (Johnson) Byrd. Some of you may remember Wilma’s parents, Bill and Annie Johnson that lived in Miller Grove for many years.
Happy birthday to Abi Tipps on Nov. 3, Peggy Weatherly on Nov. 5, Susan (Renshaw) White on Nov. 7 and Lynn Johnson on Nov. 9.
