Last Thursday night, I went to the grand opening of the Double Infinity Ranch in Brashear. Brooke Bailey, 2011 Miller Grove graduate, is employed there and she invited me to come out and see the ranch. The open house was very nice.

Lots of people on hand and food for everyone. After the some opening remarks from the owner (Wes Melcher) and Cliff Bailey (trainer/foreman) there was an official ribbon cutting. Jockeys rode some of the race horses around the track and then everyone was served chili dogs, drinks and chips. Miller Grove was even represented. Daygan Squires and Charles Bennett were there with the Miller Grove Volunteer Fire Departments’s fire truck in case of any accidents.

This Saturday will be Farmers Electric Co-op’s annual meeting for anyone who is on their service lines and would like to attend. This year the meeting will be held at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the meeting beginning at 10 a.m. The grand door prize this year is a 2005 Chevrolet half-ton extended cab truck.

Just a reminder that the Miller Grove ISD Athletic Department is having a garage sale in Sulphur Springs on Saturday, Oct. 19. It will be located on the parking lot of the old True Value store. If anyone would like to donate to the garage sale, you can contact Sonia Earp and she will pick up donations.

Mark your calendars for the Miller Grove Fall Carnival on Friday, Oct. 25. As always, the PTO will be in charge of the stew and chili and BINGO. Carnival booths in the gym will be ran by each class. This is the biggest single money making event for the school so I hope that it is well supported. I will be cooking the chili again this year so I hope to see lots of you there! I’ll have more information on the carnival to come in next week’s article.

Happy birthday this week to Brooke Bailey, Johnny Lennon and Don Petty on Oct. 13; Haley Potts on Oct. 14; Sherry (Ragan) Dial on Oct. 15; Julita (Petty) Richardson and Jack Ferguson on Oct. 16; Leon Heijligers on Oct. 17; and Hunter Darrow on Oct. 19. I would also like to send out a special birthday wish to my friend Luke “Morris” Stripling, who turned 86 on Oct. 14!

Happy 16th anniversary to Justin and Caryn Darrow on Oct. 18.
