Exciting times here in Brashear. Brashear Baptist Church is in the process of putting together a great July 4 celebration. The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. for food and end with a fireworks show. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream served. For kids, there will be a water slide and bounce houses. For the ones who enjoy good music, the Psalm 100, LouAnn Petty, and Brashear Family Singers will be the adult entertainment. The committee is also in the process of preparing a slide show honoring our military, police officers, first responders and fire fighters.

Anyone with pictures of someone or family member who served or currently serving in the military, first responder, policeman or firefighter, please get the photo to any Brashear Baptist church member. You may also call Donna Smith 903-439-1194 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Deadline for photo entries is June 30.

Brashear lost a friendly neighbor of ours last week, Joyce Hale. If you knew Joyce, you knew what a character she was. She watched out for our cows and our pony. My family has known Joyce a long time and will truly miss her.

Our condolences to the Caddles on their loss last week.

Our sympathies to the Sellers family on their loss of Billie Fae Sellers. She was a great lady and known to several in the community.

Elton Stewart wanted to wish Louise a special birthday last week on June 14. Also, a special late birthday wish goes to Amanda at the store. All of the men who sit there every day wanted to let her know they were thinking of her on her birthday. Elton and Louise Stewart are celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary on June 24. If you happen to see them between now and then make a point to wish them a happy anniversary.

The rain has been nice. We have been blessed by all of this rain. I am not sure how the rain is affecting the grasshoppers. The grasshoppers have started eating the silks on the corn. It is almost time to pick the corn even if not quite ready. Let's hope we can get some melons like we did last year. It will be hard to beat over 400 melons in all last year.
