Last season for American Idol? Why not

This could be the last season for American Idol, simply because there doesn't seem to be enough qualified judges to get the once "can't miss" program back to relevancy.

Since Simon Cowell left three seasons ago, the judges' chairs have been more like musical chairs with twist -- no one wants to sit in them.

If the first try-out episode is any indication of this year's success, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey will derail any momentum that the contestants might have. The initial try-out in New York City, aired Wednesay night, was more of an eye-rolling contant between a prima donna diva (Carey) and a wanna be diva (Minaj), who inexplicably took turns trying to speak in British accents. Why? No one this side of Randy Jackson has a clue.

A good ol' cat fight might be entertaining, but it doesn't seem like Minaj or Carey have enough wit about them to make it so. They enjoy talking over each other's comments, so it's difficult to even understand what they're saying.

It's even harder to understand what Idol producers were thinking.

Apparently, their check list for two female judges went something like this:

  • They will show their cleavage. Check.
  • They will be rude to each other. Check.
  • They will show their cleavage. Check.
  • They won't have one solid critique of the contestants. Check.
  • They will show their cleavage. Check.

Under that checklist, Carey and Minaj hit three of five qualifications.

Not to be outdone, country singer Keith Urban, who joins mainstay Randy Jackson as the third and fourth judges, undid several buttons on his shirt as well to reveal a chest tattoo.

Get accustomed to it, Idol fans. It may not get any better this season.
