Does anyone beside me think it looks a lot like last summer? It is oh so dry, and I am missing those rain showers we were getting. The yard and trees look so bad. Trees may be a loss just like last year.
Alert: We have a new family in the Brashear area. The Finneys, who live on County Road 1122, have recently moved here from Blue Ridge. They are so excited to be here, so if you happen to go by their place, stop and say hello. They are in the process of moving in a house to put on their land. I met Tina and Riley. I hope to meet the whole family soon.
Our garden is still producing okra. If anyone is interested, please call. I have put up all I intend to put up this year.
Our church, First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs, is having its annual clothes drive. It will be on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. Before you do your clothes shopping, stop by and check it out. All items will be 25 cents — no more and no less. The church will be accepting clothes on Aug. 4 by the front and back doors of the Family Life Center. If you want, you may bring clothes and leave them there. If you have a civic-minded group that would like to help process and sort the clothes, call Debbie Young at 903-612-8806. I would love to see several youth groups come by to help in this worthwhile project. If you have a teen that is bored, send them over (but please call first). The gym is where we will be processing the clothes.
Do not forget the Dinner Bell, the FUMC ministry that offers a free, hot lunch each Wedneday from noon to 1 p.m. It has been doing a wonderful mission here in Sulphur Springs. They have been serving the Boys and Girls Club, too. If you know of anyone who needs a good meal, send them to FUMC on Wednesdays.
The Food Ministry from Brashear Baptist Church is doing well too. I know that the meals are great and they deliver too. Anyone in the Brashear area may call the church (903-582-2334) to find out more about their ministry to those in need in our area.
Hope Community Church meets this Saturday. If you do not have a church home and are looking, come on by 110 Glover St. in Sulphur Springs. Food will be served at 6 p.m. with praise music beginning at 6:15 p.m. Come and meet some new people and hear a good message with wonderful praise music and great people. Hope to see you there.
The quail are on the increase in our area. We have spotted several around our house and we often hear them late in the evening.
